Greetings Aurora,
It's probably doing exactly what you suggested -- being displayed to the side of your screen.
This typically can happen if you've been using Remote Desktop with different screen
resolutions.
Regardless, to bring it back, when a conversation window "opens", right-click its taskbar
button in the taskbar, and if the 'Restore' option *isn't* grayed out, click it. Then press
alt-space on the keyboard and choose Move. Now just use the arrow keys to move the window
back into focus of your screen.
