instant messenger problems

Why is that in normal messenger all of my contacts are avalable to instant
messege but when I sign in to widows live some of my contacts have no online
status avalable to me so I can't send an instant messesge to them but they
can to me this really anoying cuz I can't talk live to them unles they instnt
messege me first
