instillation hangs on 99%

Please could anyone help?

I am trying to install the latest version of live messenger for a friend and
it "hangs" on 99%.

It doesn't matter how long you leave the instillation it doesn't complete.

I have even tried installing in Safe Mode to no avail.

I have searched for a solution there seems to be a lot of people
experiencing this problem but are unable to resolve it.

Greetings Marco,

Since it's your friend, you may just want to manually download/run the MSI (Microsoft
Installer) files to install Messenger which usually bypasses this sort of problems.

Hi Jonathan.

I have managed to resolve the problem.

There seems to be a problem with using IE for downloading.

I used Firefox and the installation was successful.

Hi Marco,

Used Firefox for what exactly? The default "installer" is just a program which then uses the
standard Windows APIs to download the Messenger MSI files. Alternatively, if you were
getting the 100MB monster installation (which has all the files included within), there is a
larger issue for corruption there, but as the install is digitally signed, I don't think it
would be going to 99% and stopping.

I think its more likely whatever the problem was (perhaps a file in use, preventing the
install from completing?) was just resolved when you tried again using the other browser.
