Intel Persistance Module

What does this do? I disabled it to try to find what is crashing my Vista installation every Friday. Harddisk churns and it crashed with BSOD 12 times and suddenly at 450pm it stopped; now 6:39 and no more problems. Rock solid. What goes on? This is not anything that I schedule or virus protection; nothing of a program I know about.

File: igfxpers.exe

Apparently has to do with nvidia class video cards and is not necessary. I doubt it is the culprit but I no longer use it.

I will say this; I had disabled it last weekend and my PC did not crash during the week. Yesterday, I installed an update to the video card, which re-enabled it and the crashes started back. This may be a coincidence. Post hoc ergo propter hoc. A logical fallacy.
