That shouldn't have been a critical update - it was a driver update for your
Intel graphics adaptor.
Have you clicked the Intelgraphics icon, and used that to change your
preferences? - it's obviously decided that for the size of monitor you have
(17"??), the 'optimum' is a 1024x768 resolution, and you need to remind it
who's boss of the PC!! <g>
If that doesn't work, you can try either uninstalling the driver (while in
Safe Mode) from Device Manager, or going to your motherboard manufacturer's
website and upgrading to their latest version.
