Interesting problem with Vista Ultimate 32bit

Hi all,

I've searched all over the net and can't seem to find anyone with the same
problems I am having, so I thought I would try here. First of all, I am
running Vista Ultimate 32bit. And this is what is happening:

1. I can't run anything "as administrator" from the start menu (I can from
all programs, but not if it's in the most active list or when I search).
2. There are many links in Vista that clicking has no effect for me.
a. The 'change product key' link in the system settings screen.
b. The 'activate windows' link in the system settings screen.
c. The 'Change my environment variables' link in the user accounts screen.
d. The 'Configure adv user profile properties' link in the user accounts
screen.

I'm sure the above 2 problems are somehow linked, and i'm sure there are
more than those that I am just not seeing.

I have not reinstalled Vista yet to see if that solves it and I would prefer
not to as it cuts in on my work time. I do know that it sucks having
Dreamweaver in the most active programs list and not being able to open it
there since for some reason Vista wants it to have admin rights and the first
time I opened it I told it to always give that app those rights. So I always
have to navigate to Dreamweaver, which is quite often.

Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Frank M Thompson

"the first time I opened it I told it to always give that app those rights"

Once you make this permanent for the start menu shortcut (under properties),
I don't think it asks you anymore in the context menu (run as administrator).
It is already "selected" to run as administrator.

I understand this, and yet, I can still not open it from the start menu's
most active programs. As I can not open any programs from that list or the
search list using the "run as administrator" option.

But I do thank you for your response

Hello

I've been searching the internet to solve this problem quite a lon
time now. The 1st ' run as admin' problem is a problem i don't have bu
the broken links is
'Change my environment variables
'Configure advanced user profile properties
These don't work in user accounts

And 'Device Manager' in System (press winkey + pause break) doesn'
work for me

Is there a solution for these problems, like a regkey that has to b
modified. Or is the only fix reinstalling vista?

I'm looking forward to you answer
