Hello all,
I'm currently running Windows Vista Home Premium and have 3 sons that I wish
to place internet quotas on. I've only been able to find programs that place
quotas at a server level which don't seem to be what I'm after. I want to
create profiles for the sons in Vista andthen apply quotas (net and disk)
from the admin account. Can someone please tell me if this is even possible
and if so, what I need to make this happen??

Thanks in advance

Hi Kreaton,

You might consider setting up a "Standard" user account for each of
your sons. This will restrict them from doing any administrative stuff.
From your "Administrator" account, go into the Control Panel (Classic
View) and click on "Parental Controls". You can restrict each Standard
account to the way you want from there. You can find more information on
Parental Controls here:

'Search Results'

If you would like to set up a limit to how much hard drive space they
can use for a drive, then see this tutorial.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Disk quotas are typically used for server disk storage, to prevent
users from hogging space. Here's a description of one method for
controlling local user storage.

http://techcx.blogspot.com/2007/06/s...ace-quota.html

A google search should turn up more.

What do you want to do with internet quotas? Have internet connectivity
shut down when a certain transfer level is exceeded? I don't believe
that's possible without third-party applications.

Thanx Nil..I've got my head around the disk quota part but if a third party
app is required for internet quota, does anyone know of one that will work
with profiles in Vista?

Hi Kreation

I found this great program called "PaperCut NG". I believe it will d
what you want it to do with a internet quota. It is a 40-day fre
evalutation copy, but it says that if you have less than 5 user account
on your computer, you will be able to continue using it free

'PaperCut NG - Control for your network resources

Thanx brink...tried that program but didn't work unfortunately I think it
has to be installed on a proxy server and not directly on the local machine
for it to work...does anyone else have any ideas?

PS. The quota tute was easy to follow!!

Your welcome Kreation

Sorry that program did not work for you on the internet quota. I hav
not had much luck finding anything decent. You might Google "Interne
Quota" to see if you find anything you like. There is a lot to sor
through.

Glad you found the tutorial easy to follow. Thank you for th
feedback
