I am using Windows Vista - Business,Internet Explorer 7 and a ADSL broadband
connection for internet(five computers use same connection to get internet)

I am experiencing the internet connection drop down status on & off without
a proper reason (according to my knowledge) to calrify with.Once in the
status bar of my computer indicates that "currently connected to: ****.com
Access:Local only" then I select diagnose & repair tool and it returns
"windows did not find any problems with your internet connection" and the
network connection icon on the status bar appears like it has local and
internet connection. But after a short while again it converts to "local
access only" view.Sometimes the network connection icon itself is not
refferring the actual status of the internet connection.with the "local
network access only" status if I tried to access internet sometimes it
works.Please advise in this regard.

Tools>Internet Options - Connections tab,

What are your settings there?

What sites do you have listed in the Intranet Zone?

Are any of those sites also listed in your Trusted Sites Zone?

Who is your ISP? Are you using PAC files?

Regards.

Connection tab is almost blank- No private network settings,LAN settings are
blank and under the "Choose settings if you need to configure a proxy server
for a connection" an option call "never dial a connection" is selected.
No sites listed in intranet zone
No sites in Trusted site zone
My ISP is a well reputed company in Sri Lanka call "Sri Lanka Telecom"
I have no idea about PAC files
Regards
Priyanka

Hi,

Your IE Connection settings seem fine.

Are you still having problems? Around this time of year (the public holidays
after christmas day) many providers will shut down their servers to do
maintenance (when demand is at yearly lows). Your ISP will be using
Satellite connections from the Indian mainland.

Your router pings your ISP servers every second or so and what you describe
suggests that this connection is dropping after you have navigated and
loaded the web site.

Usually you can power down your modem/router (for 10seconds or so) and then
switch it back on to re-establish the connection to your ISP.

Your control panel at your ISP's homepage usually has information about
planned outages and current network problems.

(some ISP's use PAC files for their connection settings (PAC=Proxy.... )

Regards.
