Internet connection will not remember my login password

I cannot save my Internet connection password. If I open my Internet
connection manually by clicking on my Speedtouch icon, the only info saved is
my username. The password is blank and I have to re-enter it each time to go
online.

When IE7 launches it attempts to log on but comes up with an "Error 691"
message.

If I open IE7, click on Tools and then Internet Properties I can see the
Speedtouch Connection which I have set as the default. If I then highlight
that and click on Settings, I see under Dial-up settings that my username is
there but the Password is blank. If I enter the password and then click OK
it returns me to the Internet Properties page again. If I then go back
immediately to the Settings button for Speedtouch the Password box is again
empty, i.e. the system has not remembered it.

This means that I cannot currently set up the PC to autodial my Internet
connection - I have to go through the process of opening Speedtouch and
manually keying in my password each time I want to log on.

Please could you give me some advice on where, if at all, I'm going wrong?

My PC is protected by McAfee and I have Windows Firewall enabled.

Many thanks
Stuart

Have you tried redoing the internet connection setup from the start?

You might have tried this: open IE7> File>Open>in the window that pops up
type the IP 10.1.1.1 and that opens up your speed touch modem. Check there
to see if your username and password is saved in the modem; it should be.

The first thing where you went wrong is by having McAfee installed on your system.I would not be surprised if it is the one that is causing this issue. McAfee is not very compatible with Vista

Secondly this issue would be more appropriate to be posted to the IE7 newsgroup where you have many experts on IE7 to help you

Hi Mick

Thanks for responding to my question so quickly. While online I've done as
you suggested and opened IE7, clicked on "File" in the menu bar, clicked on
"Open" and then typed "10.1.1.1" into the address box, all I get is an
attempt by IE7 to open a webpage with the address http://10.1.1.1/ so I'm
guessing that's not what you were asking me to do!!

Further explanation would be appreciated.

Many thanks
Stuart

Thanks, Peter - I'll take your advice too, although McAfee c ame with my new
system.

Stuart, I meant for you to open IE7 OFFLINE and do it, sorry.
It was a way to get them online
I did it on a speedtouch modem yesterday for a customer.
An ISP once told me the IP for your modem

Make sure the box about asking for the password is unchecked in the internet
properties page.

Stuart I have been reading this thread and the advice given so far has maybe
been a bit misleading.

The Speedtouch you have is a broadband modem I take it not a router so the
web IP address is not helpful.

When you said you clicked the Speedtouch icon, was that in the Network and
Sharing Center found in Control Panel?

Here you click the Manage Network Connections. Here you will see your ST
icon and a right click would give you several options to view Properties or
Repair.

I find it best to take the save tick out, rewrite the password etc' and put
the tick back.

Thanks Ian

I've tried as you suggested but there's no option under View Properties via
this route to save a password. Where is this option?

Thanks for your patience
Stuart

Stuart did you see the Speedtouch listed in the Network Sharing Center. Did
you then click the Manage Network Connections link in the left hand list.
When that opened did you see you Speedtouch modem listed.

If you did all the above as outlined and did not see your modem listed,
unplug and reinstall the modem with your supplied CD.

If you did find it in the list select it and right click for a drop down
list. Use that list to make corrections.
