Internet Connectivity Thru Cable modem

Recently I started experiencing a problem connecting to the Internet. I have
a Motorola SB4100 Cable modem with an Ethernet connection to a Siemens 2623
Router. The only way for me to connect succesfully is to release the assigned
IP address from my provider and then restart teh computer. Tryibng to renew
after a release times out every time. I have tried a new NIC card on my
desktop but that did not help as the behavior did not change.
I am running Windows XP Home with SP2.
Any suggestions?
PS all other wireless PCs work fine through the same router.
