Internet dial up problem

Long story>>>>I was having issues with a wireless router and took it out of
service for a short time. Previously had my DSL connected through the router
to the computer via a network cable. When the router was off line I tried to
connect the modem direct to the computer, but the computer would not
recognize the DSL modem and wanted the drivers for it. So I did that, but
the computer still doesn't access the net through the modem. So I tried to
set up the connection using the internet wizard. That didn't work, so I went
back to the wireless router and everything is fine now.
>>>>>>The problem is the "connect to the internet" box pops up about every
>>>>>>half hour wanting me to log in and try to connect to the net via the
>>>>>>modem.

How do I stop this box from popping up all the time?
Please pardon my ignorance, I'm and old guy without a lot of computer tech
skills.
Thanks, Bob

Select Tools in IE7 then Internet options, then Connections. Chose
"never dial a connection".

DSL modems/routers do not need drivers.

Were you using the USB cable? That is the only time it **might** ask
for a driver. Do NOT use a USB cable. Make sure you are using a CAT5e
cable.
