2 weeks ago I purchased a brand new computer. It came with Windows Vista
installed. My fiance also has a new computer with Windows Vista already
installed on it. Prior to my new computer, I had a comp with XP. Ever since I
purchased MY computer, we constintly lose interent and the only way to get it
back is rebooting computer, modem and router. We have a wired network.

I contacted my internet provider first. Everything is ok coming into my
house. They see my modem, but not my router. They say "my router is bad", so
I purchase a new router. Dlink EBR-2310 which is vista compatible. I hook it
up and we are fine for a few minutes. Internet drops again. So I contact
Dlink. We set up a few things on my router webite and uncheck the TCP/IPv6
box. I get back online with the tech on the phone and I lose internet. He
tells me " your modem is bad". So I go purchase a brand new modem. Motorola
Surfboard SB5101. I hookup all our brand new items and set up our connections
through the router. We get online and a few minutes later we are
disconnected. I have bypassed the router and have internet going straight
into my computer from the modem and not having any issues staying connected.

I am assuming either my "new" router is bad or there is something somewhere
in Vista that 1 of our computers is making it so we cant stay online.

I have also visited the Vista help page and found a few things that we have
done. We both have cleared the OK box on "Allow the computer to turn off this
device to save power."

Any help/suggestions would be helpful.

Click the Start orb, and type:
devmgmt.msc
Open the Properties of the Ethernet card, and use the Speed setting to set
it to 10 Mbps Full-Duplex. Restart windows, and test the router.

We both did this and the internet is either very slow and disconnects or
disconnects and reconnects a few minutes later when we are both online. If
only 1 of us is online it runs fine.

Luckey,
If I may ask
- what is your Antivirus program or suite ?
- are any resident or email applications configured to disconnect from the Net.
- is your Ethernet card(device manager)configured to allow Windows to disable the device
