Blade Runner again.
I believe it the problem is a virus program, or executiable file, launching
and trying to access a server using your system and Internet Explorer. I
talked to a good friend of mine at work who I consider a computer guru. He
recommended for me to look at the “Dr. Watson” error log to see what files
were causing the error messages. To make a long story short, I found two
files that were running that looked like they were causing the error
messages. The files were “DupeKind.exe” and “2Axis.exe”.
In order for me to delete these files, I had to fine them using Explorer
(yes, I had program error messages popping up during this process), copy the
file path, then restart my computer in SAFE MODE at the system prompt. This
is because I was not allowed to delete the files as they were already
launched and running. At the system prompt, I used the old DOS commands to
change the directory to the file path I had written down to locate each file,
then delete the two files above. When I restarted the computer and logged
into windows, the error messages did not occur, even when I launched Internet
Explorer.
If you are not comfortable with the above, you might want to get help from
someone who knows software or computers. Also, if you do have a virus on your
computer, you need to look at other suspisous sub directories, or files. This
virus got through my anti-virus and firewall software.
I hope this helps. Please be careful in DOS, be careful what you delete!
Take care.
