Internet Explorer 6.0 will only have one window open at a time - H

I have a problem with explorer 6.0.2900 with SP 2. For some reason, each
time a new window is opened, all previously opened explorer windows are
automatically closed. This includes when the window is opened using File New
Window or when using the right click context menu on a link and selecting
"open in new window". This is hugely frustrating and I can't find anything
which tells me why in any documentation.

Can anyone tell me why this might be occurring?
