After the automatic download of the new Internet Explorer I noticed that my
screensaver wouldn't work any more. Then my walpaper oic was gone.
When I went to Control Panel and then to Display to reinstall my choices, I
found the information on all the tabs are scrolling uncontrollably. I could
not get it to stop, and then the Internet Explorer page pops up and trys to
go online, REPEATEDLY! At one time I have a group of 47 pages. If one it
lucky you can catch it before it comes up and close them, but it keeps
bringing it up.
Why have I lost control of my Control Panel? Why does the Internet Explorer
page keep coming up?
I have dial up and have always had my computer set up so it won't even try
to go online unless I prompt it to do so.
Is anyone else having these sort of problems? And if so, how did you stop it
from happening?

You may have a horked install of IE7. I suggest reading the following
link...

http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install

....and then uninstalling and reinstalling IE7 per Sandi's tips, and using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx as the installation source,
not Automatic/Windows Update.

I went to the Microsoft Upgrade site and asked them if they could help me
figure this out. Before I logged off my computer started 'thinking'... that's
what I call it when it starts humming... so I stayed on the site until it
stopped. After going off line I went to my Control Panel and then to Display,
whatever they did, worked. I now have control of my Control Panel again.
