Hi,
For me, Google loads in about 1 second with IE8 and Firefox.
Are you using a customized page (iGoogle) with numerous gadgets? That will
lengthen the display time, but should do so for both browsers.
It's most likely that a browser add-on is slowing down IE8.
Try this...
Start Internet Explorer without add-ons by right-clicking the IE icon on the
desktop. Choose Start without add-ons.
or
from Start> Programs> Accessories> System tools> Internet Explorer (no
add-ons)
If the page loads faster, an add-on is causing the problem.

Also worth trying: Clear the Temporary Internet Files and set the size of
the Temporary Internet Files folder to 100 MB or less.
