Internet Explorer and Microsoft Update

I have a workstation running IE6 SP1 that will not load the site
http://update.mirosoft.com. At first I thought it was a security
setting, but that was not the case. Then I thought may be an active x
problem, but no. The page will begin to load but do nothing and after a
few seconds the browser window is totally non-responsive. I uninstalled
IE6 and reinstalled also reinstalled the service pack. The page would
then load, but it would open to an error page that says there is an
error with the page, click the back button or refresh your browser.
Neither of these work. Any suggestions?
