Hey All,

I keep getting the following error:

"Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site" <the requested URL>

"Operation aborted"

What's crazy is that I get this error right from Microsoft's main update
window!!!!

http://update.microsoft.com/microsof....aspx?ln=en-us

It doesn't happen all of the time but most of the time. I've seen it with a
couple of other URLs too. None of them 100% of the time.

I've seen posts with similar errors and I've tried some things such as
renaming the 'hosts' file located in: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

I tried flushing the DNS via ipconfig from the command line.

I should add that I just rebuilt this machine and installed all of the
updates, etc. I never had this problem before.

IE7 version 7.0.5730.13

WinXP Pro SP3

yada yada yada

Anyone else have any answers?

Thanks,

Todd

Hey All,

I was just told by Microsoft themselves via Chat that they are experiencing
some technical issues with that page.

I guess we can revisit this later.

Thanks

It happens with any site -but not all the time. I also reformatted my HDD and
reinstalled XP Pro with updates to SP3, when the problem appear. I also
noticed it started on the another computer for the first time on Monday
05/19-nothing was changed on this computer for a while

Does the fix for this problem require the addition of a 'Trusted site'
setting in IE7/Tools/Internet Options/Security/Trusted sites ???

Did you read the article?
It involves the author correcting scripts on the page.

The problem you are experiencing is due to a Skype add-on. To disable the
add-on, go to Internet Explorer in Tools/Manage Add-ons. You need to disable
any entries for Skype (there should be about 3 entries).
Skype will still work after you have disabled them
