Alfie,
Go to Start, Run, type in
eventvwr.msc
Click OK.
Click on System in the left frame.
In the right frame, under Source, look for Windows Update Agent or,
under Type, look for a red circle with an X across it.
Double click any Error listed for Windows Update Agent to see details.
Click the File icon under the arrows at the top right to copy the
details and post them into your response, please.
Here's a sample of an Error copied from the Event Viewer :
