> I can't even open the windowsupdate.microsoft.com page.
> I used to be able to open the v4 page, but cannot any longer. > What happens is that it says "Opening..." and shortly changes > the page label properly to "Microsoft Windows Update", > but then IE (6) hangs that window completely. Let's concentrate on that symptom then. First of all please verify that you now have XPsp2. (Press Win-Break and read the version under: System Properties, General tab, System section) If you do have XPsp2 you should be redirecting to a page on http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ not the V4 page that you are familiar with. It might even be an idea to start with that V5 site instead of relying on the redirects (which should happen but aren't as essential as being able to use the correct page.) If you look closely at your status bar you may be able to see the transitions. If they seem too fast you could slow them down somewhat by setting your Security settings for the zone to as many Prompts as possible. (E.g. doubleclick on the security zone icon in the Status bar, click on Custom Level... and then repeatedly type P and press Spacebar until you loop.) To make sure that you can see as much of the URLs as possible there you could use Fullscreen mode (e.g. press F11) and of course make sure that Status bar in that mode is active (Alt-V,B if necessary) If you change your Security settings to all Prompts be prepared to give *many* Yes responses to prompts when you start the link. <g> Also, to undo the Prompts, provided you didn't originally have any customized settings just use the Default level button in the appropriate zone again. If you are still hanging please use the above diagnostic procedure to help you identify where in the connection process you are. Also please tell us if you are in the Internet zone or the Trusted Sites zone. Not fixed yet but I saw that a box was checked regarding proxies to send all
proxy exclusions to local intranet. Unchecked, of course. Seems to be getting marginally closer but it's still not loading.
