Internet Explorer hangs

I am running xp home with SP2 and my internet explorer is not working. I
click on the icon to open it & a blank page appaers, the little flag is
flying yet there is no status bar indicating it may be loading. I hangs like
this indefinately. When I click on stop it will come up with an action
cancelled page & will not refresh, no other web pages work. I am able to run
Firefox but that is also behaving strangely. It will shut down after a while
if I am on pages like yahoo games but is ok with other pages. As I logged
onto net today, I clicked on IE to see if anything had changed & it was the
same as before until I clicked stop. IE began to multipy up to 41 pages, some
with several tabs in then, it then decresed slowly the increased again. CPU
was at 100% & I was only able to stop it by selecting end task in the task
manager. Hope someone has some ideas. Can be contact ed at jrwvhcbvh(remove
this) @yahoo.com.au. Cannot always see support pages, probably as no IE!!

Blank pages.

I've seen the multiple pages problem when people try to run IE6 and IE7 side
by side. Also, if file type associations are borked.

I tried the other fixes applicable to my pc. None worked although when I
tried the broken entry fix I was able to do only HyperText Transfer Protocal
with the other two popping up a window, after clicling ok, saying "The
specified progam could not be found. Make sure the file name and path are
correct". I had the correct details.
Thanks.
