Internet Explorer-Illegal Operetion

I cannot open Internet Explorer. I continually get a message that reads: You
have performed an illegal operation-and your system will be shut down.
(Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module MSVCRT.DLL @ 017f:780154a7)
Does anyone know of a "fix" to this problem?
