On 10/21/2008, my portable computer downloaded and installed the following
updates:

1. Security Update for Microsoft Excel 2002 (KB955464)
2. Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows Vista
(KB956391)
3. Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB955519)
4. Update for Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter [October 2008] (KB905866)
5. Update for Virtual Earth 3D (KB956034)
6. Security Update for Microsoft Office 2002 (KB956464)
7. Security Update for Windows Vista (KB957095)
8. Security Update for Windows Vista (KB954211)
9. Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - October 2008 (KB890830)
10. Security Update for Windows Vista (KB957095)
11. Security Update for Windows Vista (KB956841)
12. Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 in Vista (KB956390)

After rebooting the portable, my "Start.cmd" file did not properly map
drives on start-up. This was overcome by running the "Start.cmd" file in a
"Windows XP (Serive Pack 2) Compatibility mode.

Next I noticed that Windows Explorer, version 7.0.6001.18000, when run in
"Run as Administrator" mode, does not see any mapped drives!

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB999999).

If you think your problem relates to a Cumulative Security Update for IE,
call the above number and ask to be transferred to the "Consumer IE queue"
(which is 47830).

For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.
