internet explorer re-install problem

I've had a problem with internet explorer. I am running xp pro. I have
removed it from the register and from add/remove, but when I try to
re-install I still get the message - setup has detected a newer version of IE
already installed on this system. Setup cannot continue. Any advice. I
moxilla firefox also, but would like to use IE as some webpages only work
properly with it.

Hi. Thanks. I did do below, and still had a problem. Eventually, I thought
that if I also removed service pack 2, then this might let me re-install.
After another few nail biting hours, I re-installed sp2 (from cd) and it all
now works, better than before.
