When I shut down internet explorer it goes through a nonresponsive phase,
shuts down and reboots. In vista problem reports just itemizes the times this
happens, don't know what to look for. Appreciate someone taking a look at
this- thanks.

Try running IE in no-add-ons mode. If this works, then enable your
third-party add-ons until you find the culprit. Then don't use that one
anymore.

And of course, make sure the computer is virus/malware-free:

Thanks. That seemed to work.

The problem event was ShowBarObjClass by (unverified HiTrust).
ActiveToolBand.dll

Does it seem the latter was a Microsoft add-on or AVG?

This is not a Microsoft add-in. Googling for "ActiveToolBand.dll" and
"ActiveToolBand.dll HiTrust" gives ambiguous results. Apparently the
HiTrust .dll can be used by many programs. You might want to email AVG and
ask them if it belongs to them. And a general scan for malware with at
least Malwarebytes' Antimalware (MBAM) would not go amiss.

purchase this)

Thanks. I'll follow up on the malware and antivirus suggestions.
