Whenever I go to www.target.com, I get message:
" your browser isn't supported. Upgrade to one of the
latest versions listed below to get the most out of your Target.com
experience"

I'm running Internet Explorer 8
version 8.0.6001.18702
Update version: 0

Can anyone shed some light on what's happening here?

Thanks for the quick reply. Something is amiss in the way my IE8 is
identifying itself to the to the Target website. I know there's a header
ident
that's sent to the website saying I'm running this version browser but I
don't
remember where its located so I can check it.
All other site seems ok..
Any ideas?
Thanks again

Your posting header says that you're using OE6.
Doesn't IE8 install a new version of OE? Maybe you're
using a proxy? Or you have script disabled? Or you
actually have IE6?

In any case, if you want to check the UA string,
see here:

http://www.jsware.net/jsware/iewacky.php5#uagent

(That page/topic will also show you the UA string
you're sending if you have script enabled.)

I'm also posting with OE6. OE is Outlook Express, this is different than IE,
which is Internet Explorer. Apples and oranges. More like apples and laundry
soap, but the idea is that OE and IE are different as night and day.
Different as windows and doors.

This is my UA String, with and without script it doesn't
change. I don't see anything wrong..www.Target
still don't like it:
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; Mozilla/4.0
(compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1) ; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR
2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.648; .NET CLR
3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C)

Thanks for the site address. its been so that I
didn't even remember what the header was
called.
OE is the mail handler program. I don't think it
has any play here.

Actually, not so different. As both IE and OE uses what is commonly
called the IE rendering engine or Trident. And Trident is normally
thought of as coming with an IE install. Thus OE will fail without IE
being installed and depends on Trident being there. For example, the
security settings for IE also effects OE as well.

In the past, with IE4 through IE6... both versions of OE and IE had to
match or it wouldn't work at all (I could be wrong about IE4 and OE4).
This all changed with IE7 and IE8. As OE6 will also work with IE6, IE7,
and IE8. And I have no idea if OE6 can work with IE9 or not. AFAIK
nobody ever got this to work yet. IE9 uses Trident v5 and at least IE7
and IE8 uses Trident v4.

Doesn't matter. OE6 works perfectly fine with IE8. IE8 does not change the
version of OE, and one cannot devine the version of IE based on the header
of a post in a newsgroup where the newsclient is OE.
