Internet Intermittent only in Vista

Just purchased a Dell with an AMD Sempron 3600 processor. This is my first
time that I'm not on an Intel machine. Previous machine was on Win 98 but
internet and email was no problem. OS is Vista Home Basic.
After setting up with Bell sympatico (DSL) , managed to get internet but
only random sites would connect. Others I would get the "can not connect to
this site" message. As well email does not work at all and the passwords are
all correct. I spent an hour and a half with tech support for sympatico but
he finally said he had to escalate my case to the next higher up. After
re-hooking the Win 98 machine , everything works fine so I suspect it's the
machine and not sympatico. Oddly enough some of the sites that would not
connect was msn or sympatico.msn.....strange indeed. Other sites that would
not connect: apple.com; mp3.com etc. but others like cnn.com or google would
connect.
One suggestion was : Select IPv4 Checksum Offload and set the Value to
Disabled but it seems the IPv option is not there. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

With the W98 maching, go to the websites for your router or modem and verify
Vista compatibility for that particular model/revision, and download/install
any Vista drivers/updates.
