Ah, then you're going to have problems, too. Microsoft simply refuses to
acknowledge the problem, despite it being well-documented on the internet,
including in this newsgroup.
Other things to try:
Flush the DNS resolver cache:
1. Run the cmd prompt as administrator.
2. At the c: prompt, type: ipconfig /dnsflush
If you lose connectivity, this sometimes helps:
1. At a regular cmd prompt, type: ipconfig /renew
2. Sometimes it helps to type: ipconfig /release first.
So far, my best solution has been to increase the signal strength of the
wifi system I'm trying to connect to -- this has been a particular problem
at my firm. I did this by putting a wifi amplifier on the wifi router, then
putting a wifi extender (Linksys makes a good one) in my office. Once I did
this, the problem almost vanished completely. I suspect the issue has to do
with Vista's efforts to locate "preferred" networks, even while connected to
one.
Good luck!
