Internet links don't open

I have not been able to open internet links from programs like Windows Live
Messenger or Steam. I'm sure there is some security feature in vista that
prevents links from opening to protect users, but i only open what I trust
and just want to open them without copy/pasting. There is no error message
or anything, just nothing happens when i click them. HELP!

edit:
By the way I am using Firefox 2 and links ARE enabled in messenger.

BTW there are Mozilla newsgroups. They are very knowledgeable about
everything.
