can anyone tell me what sort of software/hardware can cause slow internet
speed .I am supposed to get upto 20mbs but intermitently i am only getting
1-5mb virgin media are blaming everything from norton to my computer set up
..I have used norton for 2 years on the same laptop. The fact that the problem
is only intermitent leads me to think the fault is at there end especialy
since the other 2 pc's in the house are having the same problems. We all
share the same router (belkin n1 vision)and is set up ok , i have spoke to
belkin and they have gone through the settings ,same with norton ,so any
help will be appreciated

Have you tried connecting directly to your cable/DSL modem and not using
the router to make sure it isn't the router? Have you unplugged both the
modem and the router to reset it and see if that improves speed?

Have you run your anti virus and anti malware apps to make sure you're
not part of a herd bot?

Have you noticed how bloated ubuntu is getting ?
What's up with that ?

A clean install is slightly over 200,000 files.

Getting to be a bit sluggish for those low end PC's its made for.

I haven't noticed that.

You counted them?

I'm running it on an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ with an nVidia 6200 512MB video
card and one gig of 266 RAM and it runs faster than XP does on the same
machine. A friend runs it on an AMD Duron, 1Ghz with 768 MB of 133 RAM
and an ATI 128 MB video card and it runs like silk. To which "low end"
computers are you referring?

And, Ubuntu is made not for low end computers but to put Windows out of
business and off the Net.

Not really interested in counting files, sorry.

And that Dell notebook is?

I haven't but I don't see any reason to deprive a high end computer of
Ubuntu.

I get a lot of work done with it. Sorry if that bothers you and provokes
you to LIE.

I don't use a hookah, so nothing to put away. The above comes from Mark
Shuttleworth, not me, chum.

Name where I lie.
It does have that many files.
It is bloated.
It also has permission issues...and getting around them is way more
complicated than UAC.

It also does not natively support protected DVD playback.
A package has to be installed...along with the warning that you may be
breaking the law.

It pretty much turns a PC into a typewriter.

Since all PC's exhibit this intermittent problem, either the router, or
cable modem / cable is the problem
Unless of course you are being throttled down to downloading too much
Try here;
virginmedia.support.broadband.cable on the news.virginmedia server

But, in said nonsence is a glimmer of truth.
To put MS out of business...and then ubuntu will maybe no longer be free.
It will start small...10 bucks for legal DVD playback...then perhaps a fee
for updates.
Then, it will be membership to the ubuntu forum will cost the purchase of a
tee-shirt and two mugs.

Then it will be the dreaded announcement " due to high cost, ubuntu will no
longer be distributed for free...but for the low,low price of $79.95 a
download code can be purchased."

I was born during the day...but not yesterday.
