80070002 error code received - follow fix instructions to turn off update and
empty folders etc which I have done - a number of times as double-check - but
this doesn't work. went to advnaced fix with these instructions which I
followed:

To resolve this problem, remove the download directory, and then visit the
update locations again. To do this, follow these steps:1. Stop the Automatic
Updates service. To do this, follow these steps:a. Click Start, click Run,
type services.msc, and then click OK.
b. Right-click the Automatic Updates service, and then click Stop.
c. Minimize the Services snap-in.

2. Rename the SoftwareDistribution directory. To do this, follow these
steps: a. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
b. Type cd %windir%, and then press ENTER.
c. Type ren SoftwareDistribution SDTemp, and then press ENTER

But at his point I get "ACCESS DENIED"

I simply cannot believe downloading the presumably vital service pack is
proving impossible - and add this to my blue scrreens at start-up and
mid-programme use that make me hate this operating system - oh if only it
wouldn't be a nightmare to uninstall and get my stable, reliable,
problem-free XP back!

Now it intrerrupts during installation - for God's sake! Vista is a
complete and utter nightmare! I'm betting NOBODY knowes where to go from
here? The error code is: 0.80070002
Please...someone...help....

cf. Windows Vista Help: Windows Update error 80070002:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...9a75f1033.mspx

Are you attempting to install Vista SP1 via Windows Update or manually?

Are you logged on as Administrator?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?

Have tried by update and manually when update failed then update helped
proved unsuccessful. I am logged on as administrator. I run AVG, Spybot and
Adaware and no 3rd party firewall.

Soory, typo error when I should have said:

Is Spybot Tea Timer enabled?

Is Ad-Aware's Guard service running in the background when you attempt to
install SP1?

What "blue screen" (BSOD) errors are you getting? I would STRONGLY
recommend get those issues resolved before attempting to installed SP1
again.

=> Please begin a new thread in the appropriate Vista-specific newsgroup
about the BSODs.

Yes Teatimer is enabled, but I'm not aware of Adaware's Guard Service and
certainly didn't configure it.
Have already put blue-screen info on another thread. Will try to fix that
first (not that I haven't tried already, but like this, I've followed
"fix-it" instructions to no avail and am mighty sick of Vista right now!)
before I trying to fix this, but would like info in advance on how to go
about it. Right now I can't ever see Vista running even half-properly.
