Intraforest Domain Migration with Exchange 2003 Mailboxes

I have tested moving a couple of users from one 2003 domain to another
whithin the same forest using ADMT 3. This appears to work fine. The
computer moves fine as well. But then I tried moving the users Exchange 2003
mailboxes within the same organization, from an exchange server in the old
domain to an exchange server in the destination domain using the move mailbox
wizard in ADUC, the user cannot connect to the mailbox. I found that if I
manually added the username with full permission to the mailbox after the
move the user can access the mailbox again.

Can someone help me understand what is happening here please?

As stated in the documentation from ADMT this is not supported with ADMT.
