"intranet statistics server" How does it work?

I have an eight server WSUS deployment with 1 master using SQL and 7 replicas
using wmsde.

Being as each WSUS system needs its own database, I was hoping to configure
an AD GPO to send update information to the SQL database on the master.

Will setting the 'Intranet Statistics Server' for all OUs to point to the
master WSUS system send update status to the SQL database? Will WSUS
computer/group membership then be relayed to the master SQL system as well?
