Invalid screen name? - greyed out

I installed messenger live on about 20 machines yesterday - set them all up
with account using their company e-mail address - e.g . On
several it says invalid screen name, and when you start chatting with
someone it might say something like $K says or .q says...

When I go to options, the first item is greyed out. I can't figure out how
to correct this.

Thanks

Greetings Boe,

You sure it's just not saying the e-mail address isn't validated? Until the e-mail address is
validated (Passport/Windows Live ID will send an e-mail to that address and the user needs to
click on the link to validate that the e-mail address exists) the display name will be grayed
out and unable to be changed.

Hi,

Just to clarify, by "validate" I mean "verified" (that's the terminology used by Passport).

I just checked. They validated/confirmed - still no success/joy - only some
people are having this issue although they all used the same logon
executable.

Hi,

I'm not sure what you mean by "logon executable"? Also, you have to completely sign off and
sign back in to see the change.

Sorry - I meant the same install executable.

I tried having them reboot with no luck on the screen name.

I had them logon using different workstations that others were able to get
into properly. This seems to have solved the issue - those people went back
to their own machines and it did work.

Not sure what is different between the machines - all XP SP2 with all the
patches, same antivirus on all the systems if I do figure it out I'll post
back. About the only thing different is the ones with issues run avantgo
but I doubt that is any way related.

Hi Boe,

Interesting. I don't think Avantgo is related either. I'll keep this on my radar but
obviously there isn't much we can try now since it's resolved.
