I have a folder named Documents on partition Data E: , The folder is
hidden and I haven't been able to unhide it. I do have access to the
folder, though, and was even able to drag the subfolders into another
folder on Data E: , but I find it very weird that the folder does not
show up on Data E: To illustrate what I mean I put two screen shots
online:'missing folder' (http://www.spinsister.nl/zandbak/HiddenDoc.htm)
..

Try the following to unhide the folder:

- Press <WINKEY>+<R>
- Type "CMD" (without quotes) in the Run box, and press <ENTER>
- Type "e:" (without quotes) and press <ENTER>
- Type "attrib -r -h -s -a Documents" (without quotes) and press
<ENTER>
- Type "exit" (without quotes) and press <ENTER>Did that help?

I did exactly as you suggest, but I can still not remove the check mar
before 'hidden' . It remains greyed out. Thanks for trying, though (
had also tried, earlier, to get to the folder using the cmd box, but th
folder does not show up, see 'cmd
(http://www.spinsister.nl/zandbak/cmd.htm). There is a folde
"Documenten" there, which I made as a replacement, but not "Documents"

I need three things from you

- Make the font of your CMD window bigger (or don't resize th
screenshot). Its hard to read
- Give be a DIR screenshot of your E: again, but this time use th
command "dir /ad", which will show only directories, whether they ar
hidden or not
- Give a screenshot of your Windows Explorer window showing th
errant "Documents" folderWe'll take it from there

1. I had already put a better screen shot online, here, the "cmd" is a
link
'cmd' (http://www.spinsister.nl/zandbak/cmd.htm)

2) yes! it is there, see: 'dir_with_Ad'
(http://www.spinsister.nl/zandbak/Screenshot02.htm) (I now realize I
have to give longer titles for the link to show up better)

3) like the second one in my original post? See:
'missing folder' (http://www.spinsister.nl/zandbak/HiddenDoc.htm)

Thanks very much!

Thanks, Adriana, but I can't see your existing screenshots because my
ADSL line is acting up again, and I have extremly slow and limited
internet access (it's a common problem with Telkom here in South
Africa). I can only access .COM, .CO.UK and .CO.ZA sites. Everything
else is so slow is might as well not exist. (OT: We need to organize a
rally against Telkom to protest this, for whatever good it will do)

But that still leaves the problem that you cannot remove the hidden
attribute from that folder. Usually, when you cannot adjust the Hidden
attribute from Explorer, it mean that the file/folder is marked as a
system folder. Thats what the command "attrib -r -h -s -a Documents" is
for. It removes the Read-Only, Hidden, System and Archive attributes.
When using that command, change "Documents" to whatever file/folder you
want to change.

If there is NOTHING in that folder that you want to keep (you did say
you moved it's contents to another folder), then use "rd /s /q
Documents" to progressively delete everything inside it before actually
removing it. Thise will delete everything in that folder without going
to the recycle bin - so use caution.

Ok, thanks. I do have the contents of that folder, so I can delete it,
but somehow that feels like defeat ;-)

Thanks for your help and good luck with your connection!

The attrib command. Did that work?

And I'll need all the luck I can get with my ADSL. France and South
Africa started providing ADSL connections at about the same time, and
already France is about 10 years ahead of us. The absolute BEST
connection available here (that most people can afford, anyway) is
1024Mb/s with a 3GB cap (incoming and outgoing traffic inclusive).
