I have downloaded the latest and Vista compatible i-Tunes version. As a next
step I want to store the contents of my i-Pod into the i-Tunes software, so
that I will be able to add and erase music later on. However when I connect
my i-Pod to the USB port a message pops up indicating that the contents must
be synchronised and that the i-Pod will be therefor erased. How do I solve
this?

You might want to post this one in the Apple Windows Vista iTunes support
forums:

You can't. It's one of the disadvantages of the iPod software. You can
only store the contents of tour iTunes on your iPod and not the other way
around. If your iPod contains the only copy of your music you are sunk.
You need to copy the music (if possible) off of the original machine and
copy it on to the new machine. If the music was purchased and downloaded as
opposed to ripped from CDs you might have a problem it's why many people
went to MP3 players and dumped the iPod.
