I have been to Microsoft, Apple, and Gateway and am about to talk to a lawyer
about a class action lawsuit against all them since there is enough of us who
are having problems and none of them are interested in fixing the problem.

I have an old computer with XP and the iPod works great with it...or worked
great until the computer went tilt. I got a new computer with Vista and the
iPod is not recognized. Well it is sort of recognized. If I leave the iPod
plugged in, the computer tries to boot off of it and I have to unplug the
iPod to get the computer to boot properly, so it knows it is there,
somewhere. The iPod does not show up anywhere and I tried to go to the
registry edit thing and got lost. I couldn't find the thing that was
supposed to fix the problem so now have a high priced paperweight also known
as an iPod...

have you installed the iTunes (or other iTunes/Vista compatible software
if there is any other) on the new computer? Then rebooted?

My iPod works just fine with Vista on an HP. Open iTunes and plug in. You
will need to transfer all of your iTunes music back to iTunes, and make sure
that you have all the cover art etc. as well — there are threads on this in
the iTunes forum. Once that is done, and you are sure you have all the music
on the new computer, you can sync. Don't do it before you are sure, as the
sync will clear your iPod completely and if you've not moved everything,
you'll lose it all.

iPod on Vista works great for me.

If your system is trying to boot from a plugged-in iPod, this has nothing to
do with Vista or any other OS, because it's happening *before* the system is
aware that there IS an OS.

The setting for this would be in the boot sequence of the system BIOS, with
USB drives listed as having priority over the hard disk. Again, this has
nothing to do with any OS. Go into the BIOS and change the setting to give
the hard disk first place.

Unplug the iPod, remove iTunes if it is installed, reboot, install the very
latest version of iTunes (a recent one had a nasty bug that would cause
blue-screens), and reboot. After restarting, *then* attach the iPod.
It's generally a bad idea to attach USB devices like this before the
necessary software is properly installed.

As the iPod is entirely Apple hardware and software, they would be a very
good place to look for help, too.

I would recommend buying a Zune would be a lot cheaper than filing for
law suit :

- God Bless America ! When your too dumb to get your product to work, your
first recourse should ALWAYS be run to a lawyer and start a class action
lawsuit. ... and since there are, I would dare say, Millions of people
successfully using their iPods with Vista, good luck !
