iPod requires SP2?????

it says here,

that this iPod, if you use it with Vista, it requires SP2 or later (last
item under Product Description..)

I have no idea if I have this or not (am on Ultimate... don't even know
if recent release of SP1 was delivered to me automatically thru the
updates..)

Are you sure that it's not XP SP2. My new ipod Classic works fine with Vista
Home Premium.

It says Vista OR xp with sp2

No, it does not say Vista SP2, it says
"Windows Vista or XP Home/Professional with Service Pack 2 or later "

When I just looked it stated

"Windows Vista or XP Home/Professional with Service Pack 2"

It did not state..

"Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 or XP Home/Professional with Service
Pack 2"

No, you've misinterpreted what it says. It says "Windows Vista or XP
Home/Professional with Service Pack 2 or later."

That's

"Windows Vista"

or

"XP Home/Professional with Service Pack 2 or later."

You do not. Vista SP2 doesn't exist yet.

SP1 doesn't exist yet either, although it is expected sometime within
the next few months. It is presently available only in a test version.

So the SP2 refers to XP, not Vista.
