I have a Vista ultimate install with a Microsoft remote and a TV tuner by
hauppauge.
The setup worked fine execept for the occasional lockup but. I
tried to set the TV part again by running the wizard.
It can find the signal on my set top box but when I get to the IR part it
says IR hardware not detected even tough I have the remote working and
operating the box. It is installed correctly and I can even use the remote
to click on the try again button.

You need to have the little IR bug on the end of the wire stuck on the front of your Set Top Box &
the plug on the other end in the socket of the IR receiver so that Media Center can control the STB.

Yes - it;s connected and stuck on the STB right where the IR Receiver is. It
was working before I ran the wizard. But now just says IR hardware not
detected.

I would try the usual Windows tricks. Reboot. Disconnect & reconnect the IR receiver & bug. Remove
the IR receiver from Device Manager & then reboot & allow Vista to rediscover the device. You will
find it in Device Manager under Human Interface Devices as Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver.

Yes - been there done that - no luck. I wonder if there is a way to reset
the MCE configuration to it's virgin state where eveything will be
rediscovered and reset including tuners, remotes etc.

Hopefully this will help some poor soul out there, I have a Mediagate GP-IR02BK remote kit... the thing would not be recognized in VMC until I had a jack in BOTH IR blaster ports ... since I didn't have a second IR blaster cable, I plugged in some headphones... IR Hardware detected! FINALLY!

John, you rock. I had been trying fix after fix for this. It worked fine with COX TV, but when I switched to Verizon FIOS it would not get past the IR Hardware/cable detection problem. I plugged in headphones to both ports and presto! I have since removed the headphones and still seems to work fine. It appears they just need to be there for install/reconfigure. Much happier. Thanks.

I have a Microsoft remote Control and I've set up Media Center many times in the past and never had a problem, but this time it's been driving me crazy with the "IR Hardware Not Detected" error even though everything is connected and working.

I came across your tip, plugged in a second blaster and...IT WORKED!!

Thanks, you saved my sanity.

I had the same problem on the new Windows 7 beta. It wouldn't recognize the IR blaster, even though they were installed correctly. When I plugged in another IR blaster to the second plug, Media Center started recognizing the IR Hardware.

Thanks for the tip!!!

It's the small black IR transmitter attached to the IR cable. The transmitter
part (i.e.blaster) gets affixed to the remote sensor area of the Set Top Box
in front of the IR Receiver.
