I would try the usual Windows tricks. Reboot. Disconnect & reconnect the IR receiver & bug. Remov
the IR receiver from Device Manager & then reboot & allow Vista to rediscover the device. You wil
find it in Device Manager under Human Interface Devices as Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver

Hopefully this will help some poor soul out there, I have a Mediagate GP-IR02BK remote kit... the thing would not be recognized in VMC until I had a jack in BOTH IR blaster ports ... since I didn't have a second IR blaster cable, I plugged in some headphones... IR Hardware detected! FINALLY!

John, you rock. I had been trying fix after fix for this. It worked fine with COX TV, but when I switched to Verizon FIOS it would not get past the IR Hardware/cable detection problem. I plugged in headphones to both ports and presto! I have since removed the headphones and still seems to work fine. It appears they just need to be there for install/reconfigure. Much happier. Thanks.

Thanks, your tip worked for me.
I have a Microsoft remote Control and I've set up Media Center many times in the past and never had a problem, but this time it's been driving me crazy with the "IR Hardware Not Detected" error even though everything is connected and working.
I came across your tip, plugged in a second blaster and...IT WORKED!!
Thanks, you saved my sanity.

Solution worked on Windows 7
I had the same problem on the new Windows 7 beta. It wouldn't recognize the IR blaster, even though they were installed correctly. When I plugged in another IR blaster to the second plug, Media Center started recognizing the IR Hardware.
Thanks for the tip!!!
