"Mike D.",
If you are using Windows XP (for the next few weeks) and reasonably sure
that you have already successfully installed this update, you can hide this
update. Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 will soon have this same
functionality (Q2/2005).
In Windows XP, you need only follow these steps at the Windows Update
website, assuming that you have not already downloaded the item:
1. Close all Internet Explorer windows, and any other Internet browser
windows.
2. Open one Internet Explorer window
3. Click Tools
4. Click Windows Update
5. Click Custom Install
6. When you are presented with updates, uncheck the one you wish to hide.
7. On this same update, check the box: Hide this update
8. Click "Go to install updates" (this may seem backwards, but this button
perhaps could also be thought of as "proceed")
This will remove the update that you do not want to be reminded of.
Automatic Updates will not download it. This will only work if you do not
have Automatic Updates set to download items automatically, or if you are
downloading automatically, but happen to visit Windows Update before
Automatic Updates downloads the update.
Let us know how this goes.
Sincerely,
Pat Walters [MSFT]
