Issue with Vista and a Text Box

I moved from a XP to vista machine, and installed a Shareware program.
It requires a key that I need to enter into a text box. On XP, I can
enter the key but on Vista the box is locked. Is this one of the
Vista quirks? If so, is there a way to fix the issue?

The maker is no longer around so I can not get an upgrade?

If the maker is no longer around, you probably have an old copy of their
software (or a newer copy that isn't Vista capable)

Try to run in XP compatibility mode.

Since you did not name the program it difficult to tell, if you name
the program,someone may be able help.

Search Google, perhaps someone else has the same program with Windows
Vista.
If you have access to another Windows Vista computer, try installing
on that computer.
