microsoft.public.windows.powershell
microsoft.public.windows.server.active_directory
microsoft.public.windows.server.general

There seem to be some problem with the above mentioned NewGroups, i cant
access any information in them, either via IE or Outlook Explorer. Have
these newgroups been decomissioned?

There is not 'issue' - your final query gives the answer. It is easier to
repost something posted many times in amm the Microsoft Hosted newsgroups
(on the Microsoft server(s) anyway) to explain...

"What is Happening?
This message is to inform you that Microsoft will soon begin discontinuing
newsgroups and transitioning users to Microsoft forums.

"Why?"
As you may know, newsgroups have existed for many years now; however, the
traffic in the Microsoft newsgroups has been steadily decreasing for the
past several years while customers and participants are increasingly finding
solutions in the forums on Microsoft properties and third party sites. This
move will unify the customer experience, centralize content, make it easier
for active contributors to retain their influence, mitigate redundancies and
make the content easier to find by customers and search engines through
improved indexing. Additionally, forums offer a better user and spam
management platform that will improve customer satisfaction by encouraging a
healthy discussion in a clean community space. To this end, Microsoft will
begin to progressively shift available resources to the forums technology
and discontinue support for newsgroups.

In addition to offering a compelling online browser experience, for those
users who prefer to use an NNTP (newsgroup) reader to participate in the
newsgroups community, we have developed a solution called the NNTP Bridge
which allows a user to connect a variety of supported NNTP readers to the
forums they would like to participate in and continue having the NTTP reader
functionality. You can find instructions on how to download and set up the
NNTP Bridge here: http://connect.microsoft.com/MicrosoftForums/

"Which Newsgroups Are Affected by this Shutdown?"
All public newsgroups will eventually be closed between June 1, 2010 and
October 1, 2010. Microsoft will be closing newsgroups in a phased approach,
starting with the least active newsgroups and moving eventually to more
active ones throughout the course of the next six months.

"Where Should I go with the Closure of this Newsgroup?"
Should you want to visit the other Microsoft Forums, please go to
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...s/default.mspx

"Who Should I Contact with any Questions?"
Send any questions about the process, recommended forums and timing to

Yes, the newsgroups have been decommissioned on the Microsoft news servers.
You can, however, still reach them on other new servers. Though the level of
activity is way down since there are viable alternatives in the Forums.

I'd have to question your use of the word 'viable', to those who have
used Usenet for years, forums are not a viable alternative.

As long as I can get to them with my preferred NNTP Reader, I don't give a
d*** what their underlying format is. And with the Community Bridge
http://communitybridge.codeplex.com/, I really don't care if they move to
Forums. As long as we have a place for our discussions about 64bit. The
problem is, we don't yet have such a place.

What about tagging? Apparently there have also been omissions in the
switch to forums for some programming language fans that may only get
support that way, e.g. based on a similar feature that the Office forums are
using--but of no use to bridge users yet AFAIK.

Charlie,
I'm back from a short trip out of town this weekend.
Web interface is gone. Latest posts are from July 8th.
Guess I will start using windows live mail.
Sad part is that I cannot do it from work, just from home.

Don't hit up against any issues myself, but if there is any feature that the
Forums support that isn't being migrated across the Community Bridge, then
open a request on codeplex site, by all means. The Community Bridge is being
actively developed and supported. (note: NOT the MS Bridge. The less said
about that, the better.)
