Issues after removing WSUS server

After installing and setting up and then subsequently uninstalling/removing
WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) many of my systems can no longer run
windows update manually.

I can temporarily resolve this problem by running the following command on
the client: "regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll" however I have to re-run the command
next time I want to run windows/microsoft update manually.

Obviously this file is getting unregistered, I assume by some WSUS domain
policy or software left behind. Has anyone else experienced this and know
how to resolve it?

Thanks,
Brad
