I am running Vista Ultimate. I have two administrator accounts; one for me
and one for my wife. I can log into my account without any difficulty.
Currently when my wife tries to log into her account it takes a particularly
long amount of time to get past the screen that says welcome. When I do get
past it all I get is a black screen with the mouse pointer. I can move the
pointer but do nothing else. I cannot right click. I hit ctrl-alt-del and
can access the task manager. This started when the computer froze up while my
wife was using internet explorer, and I had to hit the reset button on my
computer. Can you help me?

Check your wife account Startup items in Windows Vista. Open the Run Command
(Windows key + R) type in MSCONFIG > hit Enter > accept prompt on UAC dialog
> go to the Startup (tab) disable any unusual or suspicious startup items.

If you have Antivirus installed, try disabling it temporarily to see if it
is the cultiprit.

THe only change was that the sidebar and gadgets loaded, but nothing else. I
am using Live OnCare for my antivirus.

Are you sure that Windows Live OneCare TuneUp is not running in the
background? It can tremendously slow down the system.
