ITUNES Frustration

I am using windows Vista Home Deluxe addition.

When I try to download Itunes it downloads the file and I get these messages
when trying to install:
First window is titled "msiexec.exe – Bad Image" and the window message says
"c:\windows\system32\sfc_os.dll is either not designed to run on windows or
it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original
installation media or contact your system administrator or the software
vendor for support."

I click ok and another window opens titled "msiexec.exe – Bad Image – Entry
Point Not Found" and the window message says "The procedure entry point
sfc_os.SfcIsFileProtected could not be located in the dynamic link library
sfc.dll"

I click ok and a new window opens and the message says "The installer has
encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a
problem with this package. The error code is 2894."

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have an Iphone and would like to
put some music on the phone. I registered using our old computer but have a
new computer (less than year old) I would like to have Itunes as my old
computer is ready to die anyday.

I'm not sure that iTunes works on Vista at the current moment. You would
have to check the iTunes web site and maybe Microsoft's web site for the
answer to that question.

I've installed iTunes 7.5 on two Vista laptops within the last week
and had no problems. Are you sure you selected the Windows version
when downloading?

My msiexec file has the same properties but my sfc_os file is
different...mine is:

c:\users\Chuck\downloads\sfc_os.dll
File and Product version: 5.1.2600.2180
4.5 kb updated 12/9/2007 11:16 pm
This has been a problem for awhile...is it in the wrong folder and does it

Chuck,
First check to see that you have c:\Windows\System32\sfc_os.dll.
If it is gone than you may have had a virus/spyware substitute its own in
downloads!
Try (at an elevated command prompt)

sfc /scannow

Note that this may not work if the only sfc_os.dll that is on the system is
the bad one at downloads.
This will take awhile but pay attention if it says it needs to fix anything
especially sfc_os.dll !

Version x.x.2600.x is, I think for Windows XP SP1 and is often hacked to
enable changes to the XP system bypassing the system integrity checks. Used
by hackers or people that simply wanted to change system programs that
Microsoft thought should not be changed.

Any program installation that is downloading that file should be treated as
a trojan or worse.
Check the date/times for other files in the downloads to see if there is a
match, any that match should also be checked very carefully. In any case
2600 version does not belong on a Vista machine. Rename it to sfc_oc.dll.bad
or something and try again.

Michael
Vista Home premium.
