i have windows vista home premium and when i try to run the install of the
latest itunes install i get a message - this installation package could not
be opened. verify the package exists and that you can access it. or contact
the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer
package. can anyone give me an idea how to get past this.

Maybe its corrupted, have tried downloading it again and reattempt
installation? If that does not work, try disabling User Account Control
temporarily and try installing again.

Type cmd in the Start Search box above the Start Orb. When cmd.exe appears at
the top of the Start Menu, right click on it and select "Run as Administrator"
(elevated command prompt).

Type:

regsvr32 vbscript.dll (note the space between 32 and vb)

and press Enter.

Then try installing iTunes again.

Did you right click on the downloaded file selected Properties and pressed the
Unblock button and the Apply button?

Have you also tried installing by right clicking on the iTunes setup file and
selecting "Run as Administrator"?
