iwndows update jung

on an sp2 xp pro pc with latest security update except this month's, the
update hung on downloading the killbit kb. restarted the pc, tried again
and got hung "opening page"
what should I do?

Got to Start > Run > type in or copy&paste the below into the Open: line
and then click OK or press Enter

The WindowsUpdate.log will open. Scroll all the way to the bottom for
the most recent entries.

Since your log shows a "priority" note, perhaps the refusal is coming due to
the absence of SP3. My updates stopped coming until SP3 was installed.
However, if you have an AMD processor, think twice about SP# as it was
crashing AMD machines. Have you received a notification from Update to
install
SP3?

yes but I bypassed it

Today, I boot into the diagnostic mode and deleted a bunch of files and
directories as provided by Vicky, ms staff. but it still hangs looking for
updates

All other pc were able to by pass the sp3 and get 15 to 17 updates that were
available this month

Specifically, which files and directories were deleted ?
The log shows the updates being regulated and that this is a Forefront
client.
To receive assistance for Forefront issues, suggest you post in a forum
focused on it.
