Java Script Versions

When using the run command and typing "wjview" I receive indication that I am
using version 5.0.0.3805 but when I use IE View Java Console I get
5.0.0.3810. The software I am trying to use will not work correctly with
version 3805. I don't have a clue how to bring my PC into sync with itself.
I've tried uninstalling all Java programs and reinstalling but to no avail.
Also, when I try to use the microsoft update from the start button, the PC
freezes. If I then select welcome link and click scan for updates, my PC
makes a squaking noise and again hangs up while searching for an update. If
I use the microsoft update link from the "control panel" the links work fine.
I'm confused but I think if I can fix one problem, it will fix them all.
I'm using Windows 2000 Professional
