Hello,

Just got new laptop days ago running Vista Ultimate SP1 64bit.
It did have *Java SE Runtime Environment* *6u6* version installed so I
uninstalled old version and went to update to *6u7* however I failed to
check and see if was running 32bit or 64bit before I uninstalled. Then I
went to download and install *Java SE Runtime Environment* *6u7 64bit*
and Java is not running.

Do I need to get both *32bit* and *64bit* before Java will run
correctly?
I'm assuming I need *32bit* Java to run on *32bit* browser and *64bit*
Java to run on *64bit* browser. Is this correct?

No to all the questions. Uninstall whatever Java you have. Install the Java
that matches your operating system; i.e., if you are running Windows 32-bit
use the 32-bit Java and if you are running Windows 64-bit use the 64-bit
Java. You can see what type of Windows you're running by doing
Start>Search>type: winver [enter].

Hello Malke,

Thank you for your reply.
I do have *Vista Ultimate SP1 64bit* system.
I uninstalled Java and installed 64bit Java but its not working for me
when I verify.
In the *Add/Remove/Programs* it shows Install String beside icon. The
Java icon is showing shell icon and not showing the original Java icon.
Also when I go to *Options/Advanced/Internet Explorer/* there is no
listing for Java after installing 64bit.

Out of curiousity I went back and did a factory reinstall and 32bit
java *6u6* is installed and listed in *x86 Program Files* folder. There
is no 64bit listed.
Is there a way to get 64bit installed correctly so it will verify?

The "factory reinstall" could not have been a complete reinstall or nothing
of your old stuff would be showing. Nor do I think blowing away your entire
Windows installation for this would be A Good Thing.

Try the JavaRa cleanup program and uninstall *all* the versions of Java.

www.raproducts.org

Then try again with the 64-bit version of Java. Get it from here:

http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

You want the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7 in the middle of the
page. When you click the Download button, you'll be taken to a page where
you can select Windows 64-bit.

Hello Malke,

I'm familiar with JavaRa and have used it before.
I used it this time too and the link to Java that you gave is where I
went to and got the 64bit Java.
I still can't get Java to verify. It's not on IE Properties.
I will paste pic and note the ID String.
Something is still not right.

Then I'm sorry but I'm out of ideas. I'm not an expert on Java or even IE.
You might want to see if Sun has forums and/or post in the IE newsgroup.

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

I'm sorry I was unable to help you.

Hello Malke

Your not gonna believe this but I found the answer to my problem. :

Heres the scoop on what happened
This all start when I went to Secunia and tried to run a online scan

Everytime I would run the scan I would get an error when trying to loa
java applett with the pic attached below and Opera would sto
responding

I got to snooping around and found that Java was disabled a
Tools\Preferences\Advanced\Content in Opera so I enabled it
Still no luck after installing 64bit or 32bit Java and this is wha
made me believe that it was Java problem

Needless to say all I had to do was install the *MSVCR71.dll *file i
Opera Folder*\program files\opera\*. Problem solved thanks to this pos
