Jerky transitions between photos in Slideshow mode

Vista Home Premium on a laptop. When using the Slideshow mode for viewing
photos, the transitions are very jerky. I'm pretty sure it wasn't like this
before, but the only thing I can think of is that it was fine when SP1
wasn't installed but now it is, it's been jerky since. Is there any way of
fixing this?

How much memory has your laptop have? It's possible that SP1 needs more
memory, leaving less available for caching.

1GB. I'd be surprised if this was the reason though. Any workarounds
besides buying more memory?

I'd say that is very likely to be the reason in that case. Getting another
1GB of memory costs very little. You could try disabling and uninstalling
any services and background programs that you do not need (which would
require you to fully understand what you are doing), or try attaching a USB
flash drive for ReadyBoost.

That should be plenty of memory to see smooth slideshows. How large
are the individual images files in the slideshow? If they're huge
(100's of MB or more each) that might cause some jerky motion in
transitions. Also what else if anything else is running when you're
viewing the slideshow? Does this happen when running on battery only?
Some laptops don't perform at top speed when run on battery to
conserve power.

What happens if you have no transitions? If playback is then smooth,
then I would suspect either you CPU or graphic card is underpowered or
you're taxing your system doing other things at the same time.
